Concerns about public spending
If you are a member of the public and have
concerns about spending in central government,
please address them in writing to:
Amyas Morse
Comptroller and Auditor General
National Audit Office
157-197 Buckingham Palace Road
London SW1W 9SP
Or use the Contact us form.
If you are unable to write, please call our information team:
+44 (0)20 7798 7264. Please note we will not be able to provide you
with an immediate response to your concerns over the telephone.
If you work for a central government department
and have concerns about the misuse of public money, you can report
your concerns by calling the Whistleblowers Hotline: +44 (0)20 7798
7999. Or you can write to the Comptroller and Auditor General at
the address above. Our Whistleblowing
page has details of the protections provided by the Public Interest
Disclosure Act 1998.
If your concern or enquiry relates to spending in local
government, you will need to contact the Audit
Commission.
Local Government
The NAO does not audit local government spending. The Audit
Commission is responsible for appointing the auditors for local
authorities and health service bodies in England and for promoting
value for money in these sectors.
If your enquiry relates to a local authority (e.g. a council) or
a local body (e.g. police authority, health authority or housing
association), you will need to contact the Audit
Commission.
In August 2010, the government announced its intention to
abolish the Audit Commission. Future arrangements for auditing
local government spending will be subject to Parliamentary
legislation. If you have an enquiry about the NAO's future
involvement in the audit of Local Government, please use the
Contact us form.
