Biographical note

Wendy Wrigley

Wendy Wrigley has spent her career with the Co-operative Group, the world’s largest consumer co-operative, which has substantial business interests in a wide range of commercial sectors including financial services, travel, funerals, farms and retail.

With a background in marketing, she is responsible for the development of Co-operative Retails stores, products, policies and standards.

This includes the development of a modern, relevant retail proposition for the Co-operative Group’s 1100 stores, which reflects the ethos of a consumer owned retailer based in the heart of communities.

In the 90s, she introduced a number of high profile campaigns reflecting a consumer perspective of the food industry. These attempted to demonstrate how the interests of consumers, and some of the concerns of campaign groups, could be satisfied by a retail business. They included the development of an approach to labelling, based on consumers’ right to known everything they need to make a properly informed choice, and interpreting regulations from a consumer perspective by implementing the spirit, not just the letter, of the law. More recently, they have involved a series of inquires into various aspects of the food chain, including the marketing of food to children.
