Joining Forces to Tackle Obesity
21 January 2002
The NAO identified many good examples of cross-Governmental co-operation to encourage physical activity and better diet. However, it concluded that Government departments need to build on their successful joint working to date and involve other partners to develop and implement cohesive approaches aimed at preventing more people from becoming obese.
On 21 January 2002, Sir John Bourn welcomed 300 delegates to the two day NAO conference on Joining Forces to Tackle Obesity. Edward Leigh, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee gave a presentation on the Committee's response to the NAO report. Yvette Cooper MP, Minister for Public Health, Rt Hon Richard Caborn MP, Minster for Sport also gave keynote speeches outlining how their Departments are addressing the problems of obesity.
