Programme management provides direction for an organisation's suite of projects. OGC's 'Managing Successful Programmes' defines programme management as 'the co-ordinated organisation, direction and implementation of a portfolio of projects and activities that together achieve outcomes and realise benefits that are of strategic importance'. This module looks at how an organisation's programme management contributes to its efficiency.
Overview assessment
The Programme Management overview questions in the 'Framework Questions' document consider how the leadership drives an organisation to be efficient through the use of programme management.
Detailed assessment
The NAO has developed materials to support a detailed assessment
in this area. The Detailed Assessment materials identify four
critical success factors and cover processes, organisational
structure, people, and systems and tools. Please contact the NAO Efficiency Centre Team
for further information and to discuss how these materials could
be applied to your organisation.

OGC has produced guidance on and templates for programme (and project) management, to help improve the success rates of public sector programmes, and enhance the quality of new initiatives and the effectiveness with which they are implemented. These templates were originally produced by DEFRA, but can also be applied to other organisations.
DCSF has produced guidance on programme (and project) management, which reflects the Department's experiences of applying programme management to its work, change and policy programmes.
