UK National Audit Office - PFI workshops

The NAO has a limited number of new dates available in 2008 and early 2009 for its PFI workshops which help public sector project teams to gain a better understanding of key PFI issues and to identify action points for the future.

There are five types of workshop available:

Managing PFI relationships to achieve success

Over 30 project teams have already attended this popular workshop focussing on PFI relationships. Each workshop is limited to eight to ten people, normally from one individual project team.

The workshops feature speakers from both the public and private sectors who have extensive experience of managing PFI contracts. Those attending also hear from an expert on business relationships and teamwork skills.

The workshops allow time for the team attending to explore specific issues on their project affecting their relationships with the private sector and their own internal teamwork.

Public sector project teams may choose whether to attend on their own or with their private sector partners.

Evaluating PFI projects – applying the NAO framework for evaluating PFI projects

This workshop explores the issues which need to be considered in evaluating PFI projects at different stages from planning and procuring the project through to the operational phase. It is useful for those developing projects or already managing projects in operation.

Those attending will be shown how to apply the new NAO framework for evaluating PFI projects published in 2006.

PFI operational issues

A half day workshop focussing on the results of the recent NAO reports on contract variations, and benchmarking and market testing.

PFI financing – understanding the key issues

This workshop begins by explaining in simple terms the key principles in PFI financing. It then goes on to explain issues in more depth including refinancing and the emerging secondary market and other current financing issues.

Speakers include experienced practitioners and a Treasury perspective on current guidance.

PFI : Senior management briefing – a half day workshop for senior officials, particularly those who may be new to PFI

This briefing provides an overview of how PFI projects work and the issues which senior public sector officials need to keep in mind when developing or managing PFI projects.

The wisdom contained in over 60 NAO PFI/PPP reports is distilled into one half-day briefing.
