Support to Boards

Successful Boards improve their organisation’s performance. How Boards use financial management information is critical to delivering value for money from public funds. In our reports to Parliament we often point out how good financial information available to key decision makers at the right time has a beneficial effect on organisational performance.

Compliance checklist

March 2012

Our compliance checklist should help Departments and other bodies to assess where they have complied with and adhered to "Corporate Governance in Central Government Departments: Code of Good Practice 2011 (the Code)", and to identify areas of non-compliance that need to be explained and described in their annual governance statement.

Whilst this checklist's primary focus is compliance, it also provides a framework which Boards can use as a starting point for an assessment of their performance. If you have any queries about this checklist, please email: Z5-FMGP@nao.gsi.gov.uk.

Board evaluation questionnaire

September 2009

Public sector Boards must conduct an annual performance appraisal and Board members may find it helpful to complete this questionnaire as part of the process. We can help Boards by facilitating a workshop to assess performance in this area. To obtain further information please email Z5-FMGP@nao.gsi.gov.uk.

If your organisation is interested in comparing its performance with others, they can contact craig.scarr@mazars.co.uk for details of Mazars’ benchmarking service.

Reporting financial information to the Board

2008

Boards can assess the financial management information reported to them against best practice using the guide. We can help Boards by facilitating a workshop to assess performance. To obtain further information please email Z5-FMGP@nao.gsi.gov.uk.
