The INTOSAI working group on the Audit of Privatisation, in its second meeting held at Ankara in June 1995, decided to establish a framework for dissemination of information on completed privatisation audits for the benefit of all Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs). This Directory of Privatisation Audit is one of the means to achieve this dissemination.
In order to compile this directory, information was requested from the SAIs of 160 Countries. Of these, over 44 Countries have so for responded and 25 countries have conducted privatisation audits. The information received from these SAIs has been reproduced in the directory. We express our gratitude to the various SAIs for making available the information pertaining to privatisation audit and we shall be very grateful if other SAIs also have not so far provided such details will be able to do so, so that the working group can incorporate them in the next edition of the directory. It is presumed, that the SAIs who have not responded probably have yet to initiate work with respect to privatisation audit. Since this is the first endeavour to systematize and to put in shape the work undertaken by various SAI relating to privatisation audit, the group would also be very grateful for suggestions for improvement of this directory. All endeavours would be made for incorporating the suggestions, so that future editions of the directory may become more comprehensive and user-friendly.

The information collected from the various SAIs have been put across in a comprehensive manner.
Part - I contains details of the audit undertaken by the various SAIs in the field of privatisation. This part covers all the information of the sectors such as Industrial, Agricultural, Retail, etc. in which privatisation audit has been undertaken. Further, the methodology adopted for privatisation audit and issues dealt have been brought out in this part. The information pertaining to the SAIs along with names of the contact person, telephone numbers, fax numbers, details of website and address of the SAI has also been presented.
Part - II contains the Indexes, which have been designed for quick reference of the work undertaken by the various SAIs.
For those interested in specific information, index number 'A' can be utilized wherein the SAIs have been segregated, with respect to areas in which they have undertaken privatisation audit viz., industrial, agricultural, financial, retail business.
Similarly, in the index number 'B', issues dealt in privatisation audit by the various SAIs have been segregated i.e. cost of privatisation, value of business, role of advisers, determination of sale price etc. For example; if one were to look in for information of SAIs which have dealt with issue of cost of privatisation a reference to index number 'B', may be made wherein the list of such Countries appears.
