Employment, jobs and careers

The employment, jobs and careers sector is central to cross party ambitions of optimum employment from a highly skilled population able to compete in a world market.  The sector covers multiple Departments, Agencies and other public bodies in their roles of providing the right skills and training opportunities for the modern workforce.

The National Audit Office's work in this sector includes auditing the financial statements of those key central government bodies involved in this sector, such as Jobcentre Plus and the Learning Skills Council, as well as an increasing number of non departmental public bodies and other public/commercial sector ventures set up to improve employment prospects.

We also undertake a range of value for money examinations across the sector looking at the effectiveness of bodies and programmes in delivering that competitive workforce for the UK economy.
