Work in progress: Health of the Nations - Comparison of the NHS
in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
Study outline
Since 1998, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have
had significant freedom to shape their health services. This study
will set out the main structural and managerial variations in the
health services of the four nations and identify where comparisons
across health services can be made. The study will also highlight
where there are significant gaps in comparative data. Where
comparative information is available, we will set out the key
trends and differences in resources and performance across the
separate nations. We are working on this with colleagues from Audit
Scotland, the Northern Ireland Audit Office and Wales Audit
Office.
This study falls under the NAO's strategic theme of "informed
government".
