Work in Progress: Government funding for the development, demonstration and deployment of renewable energy technologies

Renewable energy, such as wind, wave and solar power, is an integral part of the Government's aims to reduce CO2 emissions. In 2000 the Government set a target to source 10 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2010. It is now seeking to further increase the use of renewable energy to meet its share of the EU target to source 20 per cent of the EU's energy from renewable sources by 2020.

In support of these targets, the Government provides direct financial support for the development, demonstration and deployment of renewable energy technologies. Our study will examine the impact of this funding on the realisation of the Government’s renewable energy goals.  The report will span the activities of a number of different delivery bodies and programmes including the Environmental Transformation Fund, the Technology Strategy Board, the Energy Technologies Institute and the Carbon Trust.
