Work in Progress: Administration of the Crown Court

Synopsis

HM Court Service (HMCS) spends around £400 million on the Crown Court, providing court facilities, staffing and resources to support the judiciary in the administration of justice. Crimes are becoming more complex and average trial lengths are increasing, placing extra pressure on court capacity and other resources.

The study will assess the extent to which HMCS is providing appropriate court facilities, staffing the courts with suitably-qualified people and providing information systems which facilitate effective performance review and sharing of good practice.

Publication Schedule

We intend to publish our report in late 2008.
