Work in Progress: Helping Government Learn
The National Audit Office is to carry out a value for money study examining organisational learning in government departments and agencies.
The need to improve the culture, systems and processes for learning in government was recently identified by the Cabinet Office, in its progress report of the Capability Reviews programme.
The NAO study will examine:
- The role of the ‘centre’ of Government in fostering a culture of learning across and within Government departments and agencies
- How departments and agencies learn and how that learning is transmitted across departmental boundaries
- How tacit knowledge can be best shared to prevent past mistakes and improve performance and productivity
- What leading organisations from other sectors do to capture and disseminate learning and what Government can learn from this
- Experience from Governments overseas
Publication Schedule
We intend to publish our report in winter 2008/09.
