Work in Progress: UK Trade and Investment (UKTI): Support for trade with high growth markets
Study Outline
As a part of its broader economic strategy, the Government seeks to encourage companies located in the UK to exploit opportunities overseas, and attract the best companies to invest in UK. The Government deliver this policy primarily through the UKTI. UKTI’s main activities focus on promoting trade and investment with the UK.
In July 2006 UKTI announced a series of initiatives as part of a new five-year strategy, its third in five years. Over this period, the UKTI has gradually shifted its focus from supporting "new-to export" business to a renewed emphasis on: priority sectors; focusing on high value and innovation businesses; and high growth markets.
Our study will examine to what extent the UKTI is well placed to deliver a successful strategy in high growth markets. Our evaluation is likely to cover:
- Whether the UKTI has developed a robust strategy to achieve the Government aims in high growth markets;
- Whether the UKTI is successfully tackling the factors that may inhibit the achievement of the strategy in high growth markets; and
- Whether the UKTI has sufficient operational information to manage strategically in high growth markets
