Work in Progress: Regional Development Agencies – Delivering Success
Study Outline
This study will look at the effectiveness of the Regional Development Agencies in helping to deliver physical regeneration in their regions.
Regional Development Agencies spend about 40% of their annual budgets (amounting to £1bn), supporting the physical regeneration of their regions. They also play a major role in leveraging investment from other public and private sector bodies. To obtain maximum benefit, projects undertaken need to support economic development and the priorities set out in the Regional Economic Strategy (prepared by the Regional Development Agencies in consultation with key partners and stakeholders) and the Regional Spatial Strategy (prepared by the Regional Assemblies).
This study will examine how effectively the Regional Development Agencies have coordinated the investment of key partners, including the local authorities, to address the priorities identified in the relevant strategies. Our assessment of the effectiveness of Regional Development Agencies’ management and delivery of physical regeneration projects in their region will incorporate an assessment of the Regional Development Agencies’ partnership working with public and private sector bodies and coordination of investment in physical regeneration.
