Consumers
Most of our work on competition will also look at the role of
consumers, and the NAO is the statutory auditor for several

Markets work best when consumers can easily shop around to get
the best deal, so it’s important for regulators to make sure that
consumers can actively participate in a market. This means they
need to be able to get information on the different suppliers of
goods and services, they need to be able to change supplier, and
they have to be able to seek redress if something goes wrong. Our
work on economic regulators examines how successfully the regulator
facilitates and encourages consumer engagement with the market.
