conference organised by the National Audit Office, the Better
Regulation Executive, the Risk and Regulation Advisory Council and
Civil Service World
Regulatory reform is perhaps more important now
than ever; in the current economic climate businesses, the third
sector and the public sector are increasingly seeking ways to
improve efficiency and cut costs. But the debate around
regulation is shifting in the light of the financial crisis.
There is growing recognition of the important protections
regulation can offer and of regulation’s benefits as well as its
costs.
Our theme, Next Steps on Better
Regulation – Getting the Balance Right, is intended to
facilitate a debate among regulators on the best means to secure
regulatory objectives without unnecessarily burdensome regulation.
This conference will pull together the work of many key
