Economics and Statistics

An independent and constructive source of advice and analysis

We provide specialist, independent expertise on economic and statistical issues to internal teams and also Departments and other stakeholders. This long established function includes work on Asylum Statistics, the Pensions Cap, and the audits of Budget assumptions.

A window on the NAO's expertise and experience

With our overview of work taking place across the NAO, we can provide access to our wide experience of the application of economic and statistical analysis across the whole of Government.

An active and inclusive community

We have a thriving network of members within the NAO and have established a number of strong working relationships with both public and private sector bodies interested in the use of economic and statistical analysis to improve the delivery of services to the public, including the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR).
