The other time as a trainee when you’re very much empowered to dress down is when you’re at college. If anything, the college dress code is even more relaxed than Casual Fridays. I have never yet seen someone don trackies in the office but I’ve seen a fair few at college.The nice thing about college is that you’re only around your intake, so you don’t have to worry about the respect of your managers and comfort is really your only watchword.
The other thing to note is that, because there are plenty of more important things to think about at college, people don’t tend to be too pre-occupied with being well turned out. It’s a lot like slouching in for a 9am uni lecture where few people take the time to ensure they’re looking their best.
Of course, you’re utterly entitled to wear your favourite new shirt if you want to and I’ve heard a fair few compliments given on a particularly cool college garment but, if you just want to concentrate on getting to grips with the study text, you’ll be in good company.
