As our new trainees start their second day with us, here’s some more advice from those who know best. Learn from Robert, one of our previous trainees who has successfully qualified as an accountant, how to deal with clients, get organised in the office and keep up at college.

As our trainees enter the busiest period of the year, we’ve dug out a post from our previous blogger Laura to help cope with the stress of final audit.
The summer months can be a stressful period for financial auditors working at the National Audit Office. This is because the majority of our audit work starts a few weeks after the year end (typically March) and clients are encouraged to complete certification of their financial statements before the end of July. Certification involves the signing of the audit report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of the NAO (currently Amyas Morse) and formal presentation of the accounts before Parliament. As Parliament leaves for summer recess towards the end of July, the deadline for certification tends to be just before this date. more… Our top 10 tips for coping with final audit stress

If you asked me what my favourite part of my job was, I wouldn’t hesitate before I told you it’s the clients I work with. I’ve been really fortunate at the NAO in that most of my clients are arms length bodies of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport whose work I believe has incredible cultural and historic value. That doesn’t mean I always agree with their accounting estimates but it does mean I get a little something extra out of it. more… The best part of my job…
