Soon after I first joined the office at the annual jamboree I was introduced to a ‘student rep’. My initial thought was one of intrigue as I immediately had visions of a strange hybrid between a holiday ‘rep’ and flashbacks of my student days many moons ago. As you may already know I’m an active member of the regional society NCASS (Northern Chartered Accountant’s Student Society). NCASS, along with the other student groups, organises events for those that are training to give opportunities to socialise and network, especially with trainees from other organisations. Some events also offer chances to network with students from other professions, such as the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors). As well as being supported during your training contract and the exam periods by the NAO itself, there are many other organisations which are both willing and able to help. The help on offer ranges from exam entries to social events and emotional support.
