Mental health services for children and young people

This study is part of the National Audit Office’s programme of work on mental health and will focus on services for children and young people. It will primarily consider NHS-funded services, but will also look at interventions undertaken in schools and by local authorities where relevant.

The study will consider the government’s progress in implementing its ambitions for more sustainable and effective mental health services for children and young people by 2020-21, taking as its starting point the strategy document Future in Mind published in March 2015. We will assess whether there is a good understanding of how far young people’s experiences of services meet their needs; whether the strategy for improvement is well-evidenced and credible; and whether there is strong accountability for spending and for the outcomes for young people.

If you would like to provide evidence for our study please email the study team on enquiries@nao.gsi.gov.uk, putting the study title in the subject line. The team will consider the evidence you provide; however, please note that due to the volume of information we receive we may not respond to you directly.
