Update on the Customs Declaration Service

The Customs Declaration Service programme aims to change business processes and replace the technology that the government currently uses to calculate and pay the correct duties and taxes for goods entering and leaving the UK through ports and airports.  The new service will be critical to how the government manages the new customs environment when the UK leaves the European Union in 2019.

The NAO has previously reported on HMRC’s Customs Declaration Service programme (available at www.nao.org.uk/report/the-customs-declaration-service). This update report will set out the latest facts about the Customs Declaration Service programme and highlight risks, issues and implications that HMRC will need to manage.
