The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is responsible for the government’s mission to become a “clean energy superpower”. The mission has two pillars: Clean Power by 2030 and Accelerate to Net Zero.
Jump to downloadsDESNZ spent £6.7 billion in 2024-25 on a range of activities and arm’s-length bodies – an increase of £0.2 billion from 2023-24. This includes:
- £3 billion on the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, approximately the same amount as in the previous year and its largest single outgoing
- £1.7 billion on Sizewell C, £570 million more than the previous year as, for example, the site and supply chain contracts are developed
- £2.3 billion on its interventions to deliver affordable energy and to take action on climate change
