Successful Boards improve their organisation’s performance. How Boards use financial management information is critical to delivering value for money from public funds. In our reports to Parliament we often point out how good financial information available to key decision makers at the right time has a beneficial effect on organisational performance.

Our compliance checklist should help Departments and other bodies to assess where they have complied with and adhered to “Corporate Governance in Central Government Departments: Code of Good Practice 2011 (the Code)” (PDF – 251KB), and to identify areas of non-compliance that need to be explained and described in their annual governance statement.

Whilst this checklist’s primary focus is compliance, it also provides a framework which Boards can use as a starting point for an assessment of their performance. If you have any queries about this checklist, please email: Z5-FMGP@nao.org.uk.
