Department for Work and Pensions Accounts 2021-22

The National Audit Office has reported on the 2021-22 accounts of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Gareth Davies, the head of the National Audit Office, has reported on the 2021-22 accounts of the Department for Work and Pensions (the Department). He has qualified his audit opinion because of the material level of fraud and error in benefit expenditure.

His report sets out:

  • the reasons and context for his qualified audit opinion in relation to fraud and error in benefit expenditure;
  • the Department’s estimated level of fraud and error in benefit expenditure;
  • the Department’s plan for reducing fraud and error following the COVID-19 pandemic; and
  • the Department’s progress in addressing the systemic underpayment of State Pension.
