The Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) is responsible for the collection of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport. VED is tax which must be paid for most types of vehicles used (or kept) on public roads in the United Kingdom. In 2018-19, the DVLA Trust Statement recorded £6,390 million of VED revenue, an increase of £389 million (6.5%) on 2017-18 levels.
