Fraud against both businesses and individuals is a serious and growing problem in the UK. The Home Office (the Department) and the National Crime Agency (NCA) are responsible for delivering many of the government’s objectives on combatting fraud. The Home Office is also developing a new Fraud Action Plan.
This study will assess the effectiveness of the government’s activity to combat fraud, in particular:
- government’s level of understanding of the scale and threat of fraud;
- government’s response to date and how appropriate this is to the threat; and
- how effective the Department’s future plans are likely to be.
As part of this, we are interested in the perspectives of people who have experienced fraud themselves and the views of charities and other organisations that represent victims of fraud.
