The UK faces a significant threat from animal diseases such as Bovine Tuberculosis and zoonotic diseases which can transmit from animals to humans. The Animal and Plant Health Agency’s specialist research and diagnostic laboratory facilities at Weybridge are the UK government’s primary capability for animal health science. The site is designated as critical national infrastructure.
The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) is leading the Science Capability and Animal Health Programme to redevelop the Weybridge site.
This report will examine whether Defra is managing the critical infrastructure at Weybridge effectively including its asset management strategy, how the programme has been set up, and the structures and processes in place to identify and manage the key programme risks.
