The former Department for International Development and the former Foreign & Commonwealth Office merged in September 2020 to create FCDO. FCDO is responsible for pursuing the UK’s national interests and projecting the UK as a force for good in the world. It aims to promote the interests of British citizens, safeguard the UK’s security, defend the UK’s values, reduce poverty and tackle global challenges alongside its international partners. FCDO spent just under £10 billion in 2021-22.
