National Audit Office report: Good practice in annual reporting

Good practice in annual reporting

This interactive guide sets out good practice principles for annual reporting with examples from public sector organisations.

This interactive guide sets out good practice principles for annual reporting with examples from public sector organisations.

This interactive guide sets out our good practice principles for good annual reporting and provides illustrative examples taken from public sector organisations who are leading the way in this area.

Our guide draws on examples of good practice from within each of the six sections of an Annual Report:

  • Strategy
  • Risk
  • Operations
  • Governance
  • Measures of success
  • Financial performance
  • External factors

It also provides further examples where bodies have made their context more understandable to the reader through use of graphics and clear language and signposting.

The list is not definitive, but we hope it provides ideas for all bodies to think about as they plan their annual reporting for 2021-22.

If you would like further information about the guide, or any aspect of Annual Report and Accounts production and audit, contact your usual NAO team, or get in touch via Building.Public.Trust@nao.org.uk.
