TCE and the The Royal Household (the Household) serve different objectives with distinct roles in relation to providing properties to members of the Royal Family.

They have separate arrangements to provide accommodation, with different financial terms in line with the overall purpose of each organisation. The Royal Family have arrangements with both organisations.

Scope of the report

This report sets out the arrangements for residential accommodation for members of the Royal Family provided by TCE and the Household. It looks at:

  • the management of residential property arrangements with members of the Royal Family
  • residential leases held by members of the Royal Family and managed by TCE
  • the Household’s arrangements for providing properties within the occupied royal palaces in England to members of the Royal Family

The report also sets out other residential accommodation provided to staff supporting members of the Royal Family.

The report does not look at arrangements through the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster or other privately owned residences.

It is a factual review, so it does not seek to examine and report on value for money. It does not make recommendations.
